Your First Warp with Zapier

Learn how to create time-based triggers in WarpTrigger and connect them to Zapier workflows for powerful automation

Beginner⏱️ 15 minutes🔗 Zapier

📋Prerequisites

A WarpTrigger account (free trial account works perfectly)
A Zapier account (free account is sufficient)
Basic familiarity with creating Zaps in Zapier

Part 1: Creating Your 'Warp' in WarpTrigger

Let's schedule a simple 'Warp' that will trigger in a few minutes. This simulates a task you want to run soon, like a follow-up email or a social media post.

1

Navigate to 'My Warps'

After logging into your WarpTrigger dashboard, click on 'My Warps' in the navigation.

2

Create a New Warp

Click the 'Create New Warp' button to start setting up your time-based trigger.

3

Name Your Warp

Give it a descriptive name that will help you identify it in Zapier later.

bash
4

Define the Schedule

For this test, choose the 'Relative Time' option. Set it to trigger in 5 minutes.

in 5 minutes
bash

💡Note: You can explore other options like specific dates, times, and complex recurrences later.

5

Add a Payload (Optional)

You can send custom JSON data with your Warp, which Zapier can then use. For now, you can leave this blank or add something simple.

{"message": "Hello from WarpTrigger!"}
bash
6

Save Your Warp

Click 'Create Warp.' You should now see your new Warp in the list with a 'Pending' status.

Part 2: Connecting WarpTrigger to Zapier

Now, let's head over to Zapier and create a Zap that listens for this Warp.

1

Create a New Zap

In your Zapier dashboard, click 'Create Zap.'

2

Choose the Trigger - WarpTrigger

Search for and select the WarpTrigger app as your trigger app.

3

Select the Event - 'Warp Fired'

The primary event available will be 'Warp Fired'. This event occurs when your scheduled Warp executes. Select it and continue.

Warp Fired
bash
4

Connect Your WarpTrigger Account

Zapier will prompt you to connect your WarpTrigger account. You'll typically need to provide an API key, which you can find in your WarpTrigger account settings under 'API Access.' Follow the on-screen instructions.

5

Set Up the Trigger - Choose Your Warp

Once connected, Zapier will ask you to specify which Warp you want to monitor. You should see a dropdown list of your active Warps.

My First Zapier Test
bash
6

Test Your Trigger

Zapier will attempt to find sample data. Since your Warp is scheduled for 5 minutes from creation, it might not find it immediately if you're too quick.

💡Note: If it doesn't find it, you can skip the test for now or wait a few minutes for the Warp to fire and then test again.

Part 3: Defining Your Action in Zapier

With the trigger set up, you can now define what action Zapier should take when your Warp fires. For this example, we'll use a simple email notification.

1

Choose an Action App

Click the '+' to add an action. Search for and select an app like 'Email by Zapier' or your preferred email service (e.g., Gmail, Outlook).

2

Select the Action

Choose an action like 'Send Outbound Email.'

3

Configure the Action

Fill in the details for the email: To: Your email address, Subject: WarpTrigger Test Successful!, Body: Include your custom message.

Payload Message: {{TriggerData__payload__message}}
bash
4

Test Your Action

Zapier will allow you to send a test email. Check your inbox to confirm it arrived.

5

Publish Your Zap!

Give your Zap a name and turn it on. Your automation is now live!

🎉

Congratulations!
